Enjoying the Summer, thrilled about what comes next!

After a couple of years working at the University of Michigan as a postdoctoral fellow, I am getting ready for new challenges. I started to code in grad school and have done multiple online courses. Sometimes I do the entire course, some I do only the chapters/classes that are of my interest at the moment.

Over the years I started to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Despite finding my GitHub useful and using some of my repositories to guide their analyses of genomic datasets, I feel like some students are intimidated by the field and not sure about where to start or what to do next. I figured that I adding my experiences and thoughts about learning how to code, including ways to troubleshot could be helpful when I am not around.

I took far too many courses but I will add to the chorus: practice is definitely better. For now, I will just say that the best of both words is to study with a focus. Have a problem to solve? A dataset to explore? Find out what you have to learn to accomplish that and keep coding!

As a surprise to nobody: teaching is also a great way to reinforce learning.

In 2018 being a Teaching Assistant of the Workshop for the first time. I have been invited to go back every year ever since to be a TA and teach students how to go through Bioinformatics tutorials.

    What to expect here:

I plan to start adding blogs about courses that I like, projects that I worked on and projects that I will be working on in the next few months.

The idea here is to share my tortuous way of self-teaching how to program in different languages and how to use coding skill in applied ways.

If you have any questions or ideas for posts, contact me through any social media indicated in Contacts page or shot me an email.
    Thanks!
